Kasteel Ooyen today

Kasteel Ooyen dates back to the Middle Ages. In 1453 Seger van Broekhuysen was the Lord of the Manor. In the 17th century the greater part of the buildings was demolished and partly rebuilt. The southern wing is the oldest part.
After the last resident left in 1981, the house started to fall into disrepair. During the last couple of years successful efforts have been made to raise money to be able to carry out the most urgent repairs.
Manor House 'De Kolck'

De Kolck as it was in the 19th century.

The name 'De Kolck' implies that originally it was a place surrounded by much water. In 1601 Johan van Broekhuysen became the owner of the house. The old castle was demolished in 1904 and the present large farmhouse took its place. The old moat was retained and still surrounds the premises. The bridge is the only remaining part of the former building.
About 1860, countess Sophia de Montigny, who did a lot for the many poor people in the village, lived here. She died on 9 December 1869.
